How to play Mergio
The rules of Mergio fit in five lines. The strategy comes from one detail: tiles always settle down and to the right.
The rules
- Each turn deals three blocks of one to four cells; every cell in a block shows the same number.
- Drag them onto the 5×5 board in any order. Blocks cannot be rotated.
- Equal numbers that touch side by side or vertically merge into the next number up.
- When merging stops, tiles settle downward and then to the right, and any new matches merge too.
- The game ends when none of your blocks fits on the board.
How merges are resolved
Mergio checks the board side to side first, then top to bottom, starting from the bottom-right corner. When two tiles merge, the result stays in the cell nearer the bottom right. Once every merge has happened, the board is checked again for chains, and then tiles settle down and to the right before the next check.
Strategy
- Build toward the bottom-right corner. Tiles settle that way anyway, so your biggest numbers will gather there; keep them in order along the bottom row and the right column.
- Keep space for big blocks. A four-cell block needs room, so avoid scattering single tiles across the middle of the board.
- Set up chains. Place a block where its merge result will land next to an equal number, and the chain doubles your points.
- Use all three blocks wisely. You can place them in any order, so put the one that merges first and let it open space for the others.
- Save the continue for a strong board. It clears two rows and two columns once per game, which helps most when a big tile is already in the corner.
Questions and answers
How do you get a high score in Mergio?
Chain merges. Each link in a chain doubles the points, so a drop that sets off three merges in a row is worth far more than three separate merges.
Which way do tiles fall in Mergio?
Down first, then to the right, which is why the bottom-right corner is the best place to build your biggest tiles.
